One of Kampala’s premier sights & icon Landmark to see during the Kampala City Tour, the prominent Uganda National Mosque (widely known as the Gadaffi Mosque) was begun by Idi Amin in 1972 but only completed in 2007 with a donation from Colonel Muammar Abu Minyar Gaddafi.
The Mosque allows you to scale its soaring minaret for the best views of Kampala, and takes you within its gleaming interior. The Mosque is regarded as the largest in Africa, reputed to have enough space to accommodate 35,000 worshipers at any one time. Be prepared to change your style as ladies will be required to experience and dress in long skirts and headscarf.
